The purpose of a map legend is to define features in a map. Symbols are displayed in the legend along with text descriptions of what each of the symbols represents.
A map legend is a useful tool that is used in a multitude of areas, such as mall maps, hiking trail maps, and even video game maps.
Note: Legend items can be used to set tool styles quickly and to perform bulk style changes.
Creating a Legend
- In the bottom left of Map View, click on Create a Legend.
Generate Legend Items

Enter categories to auto-generate legend items, or click Skip (Go To Editor) to add them manually later.
This prompt leverages the power of AI to automatically generate legend items for your map. Type a few words describing what the legend should include, such as wedding, travel, fibre, or hiking trail. - Click the Generate Legend Items button.
Legend Creator

Select the type of overlay you want to describe: Line, Polygon, or Marker.
For this example, select: "Marker". -
Under the "Title/Category", enter a short explanation for the overlay.

Click "Change Marker" to select the marker you are representing.

(Optional) Check "Allow Toggle" if you wish to toggle the Legend item on and off.

Click the "ADD" button.
You will see the item has been added. - Click "X" to close the window.
Adjust Columns and Reorder Legend Items
You can organize your legend into multiple columns and rearrange items as needed.
Change the Number of Columns
Locate the Columns dropdown inside the Legend Creator window.
Select a number between 1 and 4.
The legend layout will automatically update to match the selected column count.
Drag and Drop Legend Items
Click and hold a legend item.
Drag it to a new position within the legend.
Release to place it in the desired column or order.
You can move items between columns and reorder them at any time.
