What is a passkey?
A passkey lets you sign in to Scribble Maps without typing a password. Instead, you confirm it's you the same way you unlock your device: with your fingerprint, face, or a PIN. Passkeys are more secure than passwords because there is nothing to phish, guess, or reuse.
A passkey is an additional way to sign in. Adding one does not remove your password. You can still sign in with your password, Google, or Microsoft whenever you like.
Set up a passkey
You can create a passkey right from the login page.
- On the Scribble Maps login page, under Login With, click Passkey. (You can also start from the Register screen by clicking Passkey there.)
- When asked "Do you already have a passkey?", click No, set one up.
- Enter your email address and click Send Link.
- Open the email we send you and click the link to continue. The link expires in 10 minutes. If you don't have an account yet, the link creates one for you.
- Once you're signed in, click Create Passkey. Your browser asks you to create the passkey with Face ID, your fingerprint, or a PIN.
Sign in with a passkey
- On the login page, under Login With, click Passkey.
- When asked "Do you already have a passkey?", click Yes, sign in.
- Confirm with your device (Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN) to finish signing in.
On supported browsers you can also click the Email field and choose your saved passkey directly from your browser's suggestions.
Signing in on a new device
The first time you use your passkey on a new device, you'll see New device detected. Enter the verification code we email you and click Verify. After that, the device is remembered, so you won't need a code again for a while.
Good to know
- Passkeys don't replace your password. You can still sign in with your password, Google, or Microsoft.
- The Passkey option appears only on devices and browsers that support passkeys, for example Windows Hello, Touch ID and Face ID, Android, and password managers that support passkeys.
- If you lose the device that holds your passkey, you can still sign in with your password. Forgot it? Use Forgot Password? on the login page to reset it.
