Description
Creating labels from markers is useful when printing maps.
Create the markers
- Create 2 markers.

For this example, you can select these marker styles:- Tabs > Numeric Tabs > Blue > 1.
- Tabs > Numeric Tabs > Blue > 2.
- Under each of the "Title" headings, type in the name for each marker. For example: "Marker 1" and "Marker 2".
Add the markers to a folder
- At the top of the Layers Panel, click on the Folder Icon displaying the tooltip: "Add Group".
You will see the folder added to the Layers Panel. Note the name of the folder. For example: "Group a".

Click and drag each overlay’s row into the folder.
The folder now holds a set of overlays, so the folder is considered a Group.

(Optional) Create the folder for the labels
Note: If you don’t create or already have a separate folder for the labels, the labels can only be added to the folder that holds the markers.
- At the top of the Layers Panel, click on the Folder Icon displaying the tooltip: "Add Group".
You will see the folder added to the Layers Panel. Note the name of the folder. For example: "Group b".
Select the folders and the label style
- At the top of the Layers Panel, click on the Gear Icon displaying the tooltip: "Operations and Analysis".
The Operations and Analysis window will open.
- Under the "Create" heading > "Label" subheading, click on the link: "From Markers".
- Under the "Marker Group" heading, click the button: "select".
- Click to select the folder that holds the markers. For example: "Group a".
- Under the "Label Group" heading, click the button: "select".
- Click to select the folder where you want the app to put the labels. For example: "Group b".
- Under the "Label Style" heading, click the drop-down to view the options:

Bubble (each label will include a tail with a point that can be edited).
OR
- Text.
For this example, we’ll choose: "Bubble". -

- Click the button: "Create Labels".
- A pop-up will appear to tell you the labels have been created. Click "Ok"
- In the top-right corner of the Operations and Analysis window, click on the "X" button.
View the labels
- In the Map View, you will see each label under its marker. The text inside each label will be the name you typed in the "Title" section of each marker.
In the Layers Panel, you will see the labels have been added to the labels folder. For example: "Group b".
(Optional) Edit the tails of the bubble labels
If you select the "Bubble" option for the label style, you can edit the length and direction of each label’s tail.
- Select the Edit/Measure Tool in the top toolbar.
Quick Key: Or you can press the "Q" button on your keyboard.
- Hover over the side of the label, you will see the tail node appear at the bottom of the label. Click and drag the tail node to the new location.
