Select the line thickness, style, and end cap style
- Choose the line thickness
Above the "Search…" field in the top toolbar, you will see the field that displays the current number value for the line thickness. Choose the line thickness by clicking on the up/down arrows. You can also type in the number.
- Choose the line style
To the right of the line thickness selector, click on the current line style. Then click to select the new line style from the drop-down menu.
- Choose the line’s end cap style.
To the right of the line style selector, click on the current cap style. You can change the style to either round or square.
Input the coordinates for the starting point
- At the top of the Layers Panel, click on the Gear Icon displaying the tooltip: "Operations and Analysis".
The Operations and Analysis window will open.
- Under the "Create" heading > "Line" subheading, click on the link: "By LatLng(2)".
- (Optional) Under the heading, "Title", type in the name of the line.
- Under the heading, "Start LatLng", there are fields on the left and right.
- Type the latitude coordinate into the left field.
- Type the longitude coordinate into the right field.
Note: The coordinates must be in the format: Decimal Degrees (DD). For example, New York City is located at:
Lat = 40.730610
Lng = -73.935242
Input the coordinates for the endpoint
- Under the heading, "End Lat/Lng", there are fields on the left and right.
- Type the latitude coordinate into the left field.
- Type the longitude coordinate into the right field.
Note: For example, Los Angeles is located at:
Lat = 34.052235
Lng = -118.243683
Select the colour of the line
- Under the heading, "Select Colour", click on the rectangle that displays the currently selected colour.
- Type the Hex Colour Code into the field.
OR
Click on the "White+Colour" Field to choose how much white is mixed with colour.
- Click on the Shade Bar to choose how much gray or black is mixed with the "White+Colour".
- Type in the "Opacity" value to choose the non-transparency percentage of the final colour.
Note:
- 0% opacity is invisible.
- 50% opacity is see-through.
- 100% opacity is the solid colour.
Create, view, and edit the line
- Click on the button: "Create Line".
- In the pop-up that appears, click "Ok".
- In the top-right corner of the Operations and Analysis window, click on the "X" button.
- In the Layers Panel, you will see the line. If you wrote a title, you will see the name of the line.
- (Optional) In Map View, you may have to zoom in or out to see the line. To find the line quickly, click on the centring button on the line’s row in the Layers Panel. The button is the outlined square with a dot at the center.
- If you select the Edit/Measure Tool in the top toolbar, you can measure, edit, and move the line.
