If you need sample attribute data, visit this link: How to manually add an attribute to an overlayIf you're exporting from a map containing filters, the downloaded GeoJSON, CSV or KML file will only contain the overlays displayed at the time of the last save.The hidden overlays and actual filters are not exported.
Export As - Save
- In the top toolbar, click the "MENU" button.
- Under the "Import & Export" heading, next to "Export As", select the desired file type from the drop-down menu:
- .GeoJSON
- .png,.jpeg,.gif,.bmp,.tiff (image)
- .CSV (List)
- .KML
- .GPX
- .SHP
- .DXF
- .SMJSON
- .smt (SM Template)
- (Optional) If the map has unsaved changes, you will see a pop-up displaying this message: "You have unsaved data that will not be..." Click:
- "Save Now" to save the changes.
(Optional) To learn how to save maps, visit this link:
Save a mapOR - "Continue" to not save the changes.
If you select one of the following file options, the "Save As" window will open:
- .GeoJSON
- .KML
- .GPX
- .SHP
- .DXF
- .SMJSON
- .smt (SM Template)
You will see the downloaded file in your browser.GeoJSON, CSV, SMT, SMJSON work differently than the other file formats. They do not need to be saved first as it will always provide the most up-to-date information.

- "Save Now" to save the changes.
Export GeoJSON/WKT or GPX data for a single overlay/folder
Types of overlays:
- Can be exported.
- Can't be exported.
- Can be partially exported.
When you export a single overlay/folder, you can export the GeoJSON data for these overlay types:
- Shapes - Rectangle, Circle, Polygon.
- Lines - Freeform line, Straight line, Precise curved line, Flight line.
- Markers.
The data won't be usable for these overlay types:
- Isometric shapes.
- Image overlays.
For Labels, the location will be exported to GeoJSON as a marker.The "name" and "description" data will be attributes.For Dimension lines, the dimension components won't be exported to GeoJSON.Only the straight line component will be exported.
Export GeoJSON/WKT or GPX data
- (Optional) If the Layers Panel isn't open on the right side of the browser window, click the vertical bar.
- Find the overlay/folder's row and click on the Three Dots Icon.
ORRight-click on the overlay.A pop-up menu will appear.
- Click to select "Export GeoJSON/WKT" or "GPX".
If you selected Export GeoJSON/WKT, you will see the data displayed in the "GEOJSON" window.
ORSelect WKT.Click the button: "DOWNLOAD FILE". - Save the file to your computer.
You will see the downloaded file in your browser.
The file’s type will be: ".geojson", ".wkt" or ".gpx".
- (Optional) Using text editor software, you can quickly view the GeoJSON data if you open the file. For example:
- Notepad on Windows systems.
- TextEdit on Mac systems.
Export using Click Actions (GeoJSON, GPX, WKT, CSV)

Click Action - Download File
- In the Click Action menu, select Download File for Overlay/Group (GPX, GeoJSON, etc.) from the drop-down menu.

Click the Select button and choose the Overlay or Folder you wish to download the file for.
- Under File Type, select the file type you want the Click Action to download.
- GeoJSON
- GPX
- WKT
- CSV
- Click the "+ Add Action" button. Then click "SAVE".
Example: Download Flight Line Button
- Create a flight line.
To learn how to create a flight line, visit;
- Create a block label that says, "Click this to download the Flight Line's GPX file".
To learn how to create a label, visit;
- Click on Click Action and:
- Select Download File for Overlay/Group (GPX, GeoJSON, etc.) from the Click Action drop-down menu.
- Select the flight line from the Select button.
- Select GPX from the File Type drop-down menu.
- Add the Click Action and Save.
- Click Save.
Clicking on the label will download the GPX file for the flight line.
Export using Download File Link (GeoJSON, GPX, WKT, CSV)
Add Download File Link
- Create an overlay.

Click on the
button above the Description field.
- Under Overlay of Group, click the select button and select the file of overlay you want the downloadable file for.
- Under File Type, select the file type you want the Click Action to download.
- GeoJSON
- GPX
- WKT
- CSV
- Click the "Insert" button. Then click "SAVE".
When you click on the overlay, you will notice a Download button inside of a bubble quote.
Import - Drag and drop files into Scribble Maps
Drag and drop files into Scribble Maps, if you want to import your files and data, as is.
Drag and drop the files
- You can find the spreadsheet on your computer and drag the file into Scribble Maps.
You will see the file has been added.
If the file was a PNG, you can use the Edit/Measure Tool to move the image to your desired location.
If the file was a CSV, the "IMPORT LIST (SPREADSHEET)" window will appear with your data displayed in the table.
Import - Use the Import Files & Data menu
If you want to set the Import Styling upon importing, use the IMPORT FILES & DATA menu.
Import Files & Data
- At the top of the Layers Panel, click the "Import File" Icon displaying the tooltip: "Import File(s) and data (GeoJSON, SHP, VSC, KML, Images, etc..)".
You will see the window titled: "IMPORT FILES & DATA".
- Under "Upload files", click the "Choose files" button to select and open the file from your computer.

- Quick Key: Ctrl + C (for Windows).
- Quick Key: Command + C (for Macs).
Import Styling

Choose the colour for the fill areas of the shapes (polygons, etc.)
To choose the colour:
- Select the Fill Colour Picker.
The Fill Colour Picker is the Bucket Icon displaying the tooltip: "Polygon fill colour".

There are 2 options for this step:Option 1
Type the Hex Colour Code into the field.Option 2- Click on the "White+Colour" field to choose how much white is mixed with colour.
- (Optional) Click on the Shade Bar to choose how much gray or black is mixed with the "White+Colour".
(TIP) If the Shade Bar is set to black, click upwards on the bar to change the colour.
- Click on the "White+Colour" field to choose how much white is mixed with colour.

(Optional) In the "Opacity" field, type in the non-transparency percentage of the final colour.
The opacity value:- 0% is invisible.
- 50% is see-through.
- 100% is the solid colour.

Choose the colour for the borders of the shapes (polygons, etc.)
The Border Colour Picker is the Pencil Icon displaying the tooltip: "Line/border colour".
The same colour will be also be used for lines and borders.

Change the line/border thickness of the shapes (polygons, etc.).

Change the line/border style of the shapes (polygons, etc.).

Change the end cap style of the lines.

Click on the marker to select the style of Marker for your points.

Select the level of detail.
A Lower number will mean a higher performance.
A Higher number will provide more accuracy at closer zooms but have lower performance.
If creating a zoomed out map or creating a lot regions it is best to use a low number.
- (Optional) Check Restrict to Area.
Restricts the data imported to a selected area (shape/polygon). Useful when importing large data sets to keep map size down.
Select the polygon from the list or click "Select On Map" to choose the polygon from the map instead. -
Click the IMPORT FILES button when finished.
You will see the file has been added.
Import List (Spreadsheet)

- When importing a .csv, the IMPORT LIST (SPREADSHEET) menu will pop up. For each column in the table, you will see the upper heading displays the definable heading.
Note:
Matching headings will be automatically selected. For example:- Country
- State
- City
- Address
- Description
- Latitude
- Longitude
- Below the custom definable headings, click on the drop-down list to select the matching preset heading. For example:
- Title
- Folder
- Attribute
- Use the "Style" drop-down menu to select Paddle or Dot for the markers that will be displayed.
- (Optional) Click on any of the paddles or dots to select a different marker style.

- (Optional) Check to "Create Heatmap" of your data by selecting the Value, Color, Size and Opacity.
- At the bottom of the "IMPORT LIST (SPREADSHEET)" window, click the button: "MAP LIST". You will see a pop-up that tells you how many points were added to the map and how many Geocodes were used.
