Free maps: Scribble Maps promos and the monthly view limit

The Scribble Maps promo card

When someone views a map made with a Free account, a small card appears on the map after it loads. The card shows one of Scribble Maps' own products, such as making your own map, Situation Tracker or AADT traffic counts. The top of the card names the product, for example "AADT by Scribble Maps".

  • The card counts down for a few seconds, then shows a close button.
  • The card sits where it covers the fewest map controls, such as the zoom buttons and the legend.
  • The card is shown in your visitor's language.
  • You see the card on your own Free maps too, so you know what your visitors see.

Maps made with Pro Basic or Pro Business never show the card.

The monthly view limit

A map made with a Free account gets a set number of free views each month where views are counted (see below):

  • 50 views a month when it is embedded on a website.
  • 10 views a month on its scribblemaps.com page or when it is opened from a link.

After that, frosted glass covers the map. The map can still be made out behind it, with the message This map has exceeded its free view count and Owner of this map? Unlock unlimited views., and a button to upgrade to Pro Basic.

  • The count is per map, not per account.
  • It resets on the 1st of each month (UTC).
  • When you are signed in, your own views of your own map are never counted, and you never see this message on your own map.

Where views are counted

  • Embedded on a website: counted, for every map.
  • Shared on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, Discord or Slack: never counted.
  • On the map's page on scribblemaps.com, or opened from a link: counted only for maps that are not Public.

Maps saved without signing in to a Scribble Maps account are never counted. They still show the promo card.

A Public map is one you saved as Public. It can be found on scribblemaps.com and in search, so its own page never shows the message.

Road maps on Free accounts

A map made with a Free account that uses the Google Road or Traffic base map shows the Scribble Maps road map instead. It has no Google view limit.

Remove the promo card and the limit

Upgrade to Pro Basic to remove both. Your maps then show no promo card and have unlimited views on Scribble Maps base maps.

The promo card has a link for this: Your map? Remove with Pro Basic. To learn how, read how to upgrade to a Pro account.
