Plot a marker at a specified distance on a line/border - "Lines > Dist. Along Line"

Note: To plot a marker at a specified distance on a shape’s border, first convert the border to a line by deleting the fill area.

1. In the top toolbar, select the Delete Tool.
   Quick Key: Or you can hold the "E" button on your keyboard.
2. In the Map View, click on the fill area.

Draw the line

In the Map View, draw a line.

Configure the marker and distance

1. At the top of the Layers Panel, click on the Gear Icon displaying the tooltip: "Operations and Analysis".
   The Operations and Analysis window will open.
    
2. Under the "Analysis" heading > "Lines" subheading, click on the link: "Dist. Along Line".
    
3. Under the "Select Line" heading, click the button: "select".
    
4. Click to select the line from the list.
    
5. Under the "Marker" heading, click the button: "select".
   The marker selector window will pop up.
    
6. In the left menu pane, click on the folder/sub-folders, then a category.
   For this example, we’ll choose Tabs > Numeric Tabs > Blue.
    
7. (Optional) You can change the size of the marker. In the bottom-right corner of the window, click on the drop-down list to select: 100%, 75%, 50%, or 25%.

   Note: When you zoom-in or out in the Map View, the default setting is: marker size remains the same.

    
8. In the right window pane, click on the marker to select it.
    
9. Under the "Distance" heading, select the units: "Metres" or "Kilometers". Then type in the distance. You can also click on the up/down arrows to make fine adjustments.

   Note: If the specified distance is longer than the line, the marker will be plotted at the end of the line.

Plot, name, and view the marker

1. Click on the button: "Mark Distance".
   Wait a few moments for the processing.
    
2. You will see a pop-up appear that says the marker has been plotted. Click "Ok".
    
3. In the top-right corner of the Operations and Analysis window, click on the "X" button.
    
4. In the Layers Panel, you will see the title on the marker’s row is the distance you specified.
   You can click on the Pencil Icon to change the title.
    
5. In the Map View, you may have to zoom in or out to see the marker plotted on the line.

   To find the marker quickly, click on the centering button on the marker’s row in the Layers Panel. The button is the outlined square with a dot at the center.
