  1. Open Scribble Maps at:
    https://www.scribblemaps.com/create

  2. Use the shortcuts below to select tools quickly, move around the map, open the Action Menu, copy and paste text, print, or refresh the browser.

Scribble Maps shortcuts

The table below lists the keyboard shortcuts, mouse shortcuts, and shortcut-style actions used in Scribble Maps.

Shortcut Action / Tool Notes
Ctrl + / Open the Action Menu Use Quick Search to find tools and features.
Ctrl + ? Open the Action Menu Alternative shortcut for Quick Search.
Q Edit/Measure Tool Select, edit, measure, move, or view overlays in the Layers Panel.
Shift Hand Tool/move map Hold down Shift, then click and drag the map.
D Draw Tool Draw a freeform line.
Z Line Tool Draw straight lines, connected lines, flight lines, or dimension lines.
P Polygon Tool Draw a polygon.
R Rectangle Tool Draw a rectangle.
O Circle Tool Draw a circle.
M Marker Tool Create or place a marker.
T Label Tool Create a label.
E Delete Tool Delete markers, overlays, image overlays, line sections, or other map items.
I Style Picker Tool Pick or copy the style from an existing line or shape.
G Fill/Change Colour Tool Apply fill colour, change colour, or fill connected lines.
S Split Tool Split shapes or lines into separate pieces.
/ Slash Tool Slash a shape or line in two.
K Knife Tool Knife or cut a shape or line.
J Merge Tool (Pro) Click two overlays to merge them together.
C Split Tool Legacy shortcut reference. Newer Split/Slash/Knife instructions list S as the Split Tool Quick Key.
Ctrl + C Copy, Windows Copy URLs, map IDs, coordinates, embed code, colour codes, or other selected text.
Command + C Copy, Mac Copy URLs, map IDs, coordinates, embed code, colour codes, or other selected text.
Cmd + C Copy, Mac Alternative wording for Command + C.
Ctrl + V Paste, Windows Paste URLs, map IDs, coordinates, embed code, TMS URLs, or other copied text.
Command + V Paste, Mac Paste URLs, map IDs, coordinates, embed code, TMS URLs, or other copied text.
Cmd + V Paste, Mac Alternative wording for Command + V.
Ctrl + P Print, Windows Open the print window from the software you use to view the exported image file or PDF.
Command + P Print, Mac Open the print window from the software you use to view the exported image file or PDF.
Ctrl + F5 Hard refresh, Windows Use in Chrome, Firefox, IE, or Edge.
Command + R Hard refresh, Mac Use in Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
+ Zoom in Click the zoom-in button in the top-right corner of the Map View.
- Zoom out Click the zoom-out button in the top-right corner of the Map View.
Mouse scroll forwards Zoom in, Windows Use the scroll wheel on your mouse.
Mouse scroll backwards Zoom out, Windows Use the scroll wheel on your mouse.
Mouse scroll backwards Zoom in, Mac Use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Move and zoom the map

Move the map

  1. Select the Hand Tool in the top toolbar.

    Quick Key: Or you can hold down the "Shift" button on your keyboard.

  2. In the Map View, click and drag the map to move it.

Zoom in or out

There are 2 options to zoom the map:

  1. Option 1
    In the top-right corner of the Map View, click the:

    • Zoom-in button, "+".
    • Zoom-out button, "-".

  2. Option 2
    Use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

    For Windows
    • Scroll forwards to zoom-in.
    • Scroll backwards to zoom-out.
    For Mac
    • Scroll backwards to zoom-in.
    • Scroll forwards to zoom-out.

Copy, paste, print and refresh

Copy text

  1. Highlight the text you need to copy.

  2. Use your keyboard to press:
    • Quick Key: Ctrl + C for Windows.
    • Quick Key: Command + C for Macs.
    • Quick Key: Cmd + C for Macs.

Paste text

  1. Click the field where you need to paste the copied text.

  2. Use your keyboard to press:
    • Quick Key: Ctrl + V for Windows.
    • Quick Key: Command + V for Macs.
    • Quick Key: Cmd + V for Macs.

Print

  1. Open the image file or PDF by using the software you choose.

  2. Open the software’s print window by pressing:
    • Quick Key: Ctrl + P for Windows.
    • Quick Key: Command + P for Macs.

Perform a hard refresh

A hard refresh can help reload the browser when map data, imported data, or account changes do not appear as expected.

These instructions explain how to perform a hard refresh in several popular web browsers:
  • Windows - Chrome, Firefox, IE, or Edge
    Quick Key: Hold down the "Ctrl" key, and press the "F5" key.
  • Mac - Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
    Quick Key: Hold down the "Command" key, and press the "R" key.

Legacy shortcut reference

Note: Older help content may list the Split Tool Quick Key as "C". Newer Split/Slash/Knife instructions list the Split Tool Quick Key as "S".

  1. Use "S" first to select the Split Tool.

  2. When following older instructions that refer to "C", treat it as a legacy Split Tool shortcut reference.
