This article explains what Scribble is, how to use it, and what each control does.

Scribble is designed to assist with map creation and navigation. When an action can’t be completed directly, Scribble will guide you to the appropriate tool or panel

What is Scribble?

Scribble is the built-in interactive assistant. It helps you navigate the map, use tools, and create content, guiding you with natural-language or voice commands without digging through menus.

You can interact with Scribble using text or voice. It understands mapping-related requests and can:

• Move the map to places or coordinates
• Select and switch drawing tools
• Help create shapes, lines, and markers
• Answer basic questions about Scribble Maps features
• Resume work from where you last left off

Scribble is focused on helping you perform map actions quickly and naturally.

Using Scribble

Scribble is docked at the bottom-right of the map by default. If you can see the Scribble bar (with the text box and icons), it is already open and ready to use.

If Scribble has been closed (for example, you clicked the X), reopen it by following these steps:

1. Click Get Help in the top-right corner.
2. Click the OPEN button next to Ask Scribble.

Once Scribble is open, you can interact with it in two ways:

• Typing into the text field
• Using voice with Push-to-Talk

Using Text Commands

Type what you want to do in plain language, then press Enter.

Examples include:

• Show me all the Michelin-star restaurants in Toronto
• Show me Times Square in New York at street level
• Switch to the marker tool, I need to mark some locations
• Make the map look like a beautiful sunset

Scribble will either act or guide you to the correct tool.

Using Voice Commands (Push-to-Talk)

Scribble supports voice input using Push-to-Talk.

To use voice commands:

1. Press and hold the Space bar
2. Speak your command
3. Release the Space bar

Voice input works best for short, direct commands.

If the Space bar isn’t working, make sure Push-to-Talk is enabled in Scribble Controls.

Examples are grouped by category, such as:

Navigation & Location

• Take me to the Eiffel Tower in Paris and zoom in close
• Navigate to 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA
• Go to coordinates 40.7128° N, 74.0060° W

Drawing & Creation Tools

• Help me draw a red circle with a 1-kilometre radius
• Create a blue polygon around Central Park
• Select the freehand line tool so I can trace a river
• Create a dashed line between these two points

The list is not exhaustive and is meant to help you learn how Scribble understands commands.

Scribble Controls

Click the gear icon to open the controls panel. 

Push-to-Talk (Space)

Enables voice input when holding the Space bar.

Mute Voice

Turns off Scribble’s voice responses.

Hide Avatar

Hides Scribble’s on-screen avatar.

Take the Wheel

Allows Scribble to control map actions when responding to commands directly.

Add MCP Server

Advanced option for connecting an MCP server.

Reset

Clears Scribble’s current context and resets the session.

Privacy Info

Opens information about how Scribble handles data and privacy.

Scribble Chat

Click the speech bubble to view your Scribble conversation history.

Click Clear at the top of the Scribble Chat window to remove the current conversation history.

This does not affect your map or saved projects.
