Add videos, Telegram posts and other media to a marker popup
You can put a video, a sound clip or a social media post inside the popup of a marker. It plays right in the popup, so viewers do not leave your map.
Add an embed code
- Select the Edit/Measure Tool in the top toolbar (or press Q).
- Click the marker. Its editor window opens.
- Click Advanced Editing.
- Click HTML at the top of the description box.
- Paste the embed code from the video site. Most sites have a Share button with an Embed option that gives you this code.
- Click Save.
To check it, select the Hand Tool and click the marker. The player shows in the popup.
If you switch back to VISUAL while editing, the video shows as a short code in square brackets, like [[Embed url="..."]]. That is normal. It turns back into the player when you save.
Sites you can embed
Embed codes from these sites play inside the popup:
- Video: YouTube (including youtube-nocookie.com), Vimeo, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook video, Twitch, Dailymotion, Loom, Wistia, Streamable, Rumble and the Internet Archive.
- Telegram: posts from public channels.
- Audio: Spotify, SoundCloud and Bandcamp.
- Other: Google Docs, Google Drive file previews, Google Maps embeds, Matterport tours, Power BI reports published to the web, and Scribble Maps maps.
An embed code from any other site is removed when you save. This is a security rule. It also applies to video players on your own website. To show a video you host yourself, link the video file directly (see below).
Each site's own rules still apply inside the popup. For example, a private or deleted post shows that site's "not found" message.
Telegram posts
You can use either kind of code:
- The Embed code from Telegram's own post menu (it starts with
<scriptand hasdata-telegram-post). Scribble Maps changes it into a player for you. - A link to the post in a frame, like this:
<iframe src="https://t.me/channelname/1234?embed=1" width="400" height="500"></iframe>
Only posts from public channels can be shown. Posts from private groups or private channels cannot be embedded.
Play a video file directly
If you have a link straight to a video file (it ends in .mp4 or .webm and starts with https), paste this in HTML:
<video src="https://example.com/my-video.mp4" width="400"></video>
For a sound file, use <audio src="https://example.com/my-sound.mp3"></audio>.
Play and volume controls are always added, so viewers can pause the clip. Videos and sounds never start by themselves.
Size
Change the width and height numbers in the code to make the player bigger or smaller. Telegram's own Embed code becomes a player 400 wide and 500 tall. You can change those numbers after it is converted.
