Solar Analysis - Roof Solar Report and Panel Layout

Solar Analysis builds a rooftop solar report for a house or building on your map. It uses Google Solar data. In one step it places the modeled solar panels on the roof, adds the full report to the map as a label, and crops the map to the project.

Add the Solar Analysis kit

You can add the kit from either place:

• Launch Pad: find the Solar Analysis card and click Use Kit.
• Maps & Data: open the Kits tab, find the Solar Analysis card, and click Use Kit.

The Launch Pad or Maps & Data panel closes, and the Roof Solar Report panel opens on the map.

If your plan is not Pro Business, you see Pro Business Required for Solar Analysis with an Upgrade button.

Get a report

1. Move the map so the crosshairs in the center sit over the house or building. The crosshairs show while the kit is open.
2. Click Get Report Here next to the crosshairs, or click Get New Report in the panel.

The Get Report Here button goes away after your first report. Use Get New Report in the panel for the next one.

If the map is not a Google map, ScribbleMaps switches it to Google first. Solar data is shown on Google imagery.

While the report loads, you see Loading solar report....

What gets added to the map

When the report is ready, ScribbleMaps adds all of this in one step:

• Solar panels. One rectangle for each modeled panel, placed on the roof. Each one is named Solar Panel 1, Solar Panel 2, and so on, and holds its yearly energy and orientation.
• Folders. The panels go in a folder named for the building's address (or Solar Project when there is no address). That folder sits inside a Solar Projects folder, which is reused for every report.
• The report label. The full report is placed on the map to the left of the cropped circle. It is saved with your map.
• A map crop. The map is cropped to a circle around the panels, with extra space around them. If your map already has a crop, the circle is added to it and your crop style is kept.

The map then zooms to show the panels, the crop, and the report.

To undo all of it at once, press undo one time.

The kit panel shows a Solar Analysis Complete summary with kWh / yr, Panels added, and Peak Sun hr/yr.

Read the report

The report label shows:

Part	What it shows
kWh Total yearly energy	The yearly energy the whole modeled array can produce
Trees planted, Miles offset, CO₂ offset/yr	The environmental impact of that energy
Peak Sun hr/yr, Max Panels, Array Area, Capacity	Key numbers for the roof
Roof capacity	Panel count, array area, panel orientation, panel size, capacity, lifetime, and a Monthly Solar Output chart
Roof faces	Each roof face with its direction, pitch, area, and sun exposure, plus a Roof Orientation breakdown
Bill scenarios	20-Yr Savings by Bill: three bars for a low, middle, and high monthly bill, with 20-year savings and payback time. Shown for US addresses only.
Imagery	The location, imagery quality, and imagery date

The report always shows in full, with no scroll bar, so it prints and exports completely. The map zooms so the circle and the report both fit on your screen. If you zoom out further, the label shrinks with the map.

Get another report

Move the crosshairs to another building and click Get New Report again. Each report adds its own folder, report label, and crop circle.

When there is no report

If Google has no solar data for the spot, the panel shows No solar data for this location. Nothing is added to the map. Move the crosshairs to a different building and try again.

If the connection fails, you see Could not load a solar report: please check your connection and try again.

Report limits

Each account can get up to 20 solar reports per hour and 100 per day. When you reach a limit, the panel shows how long to wait, for example You have reached the limit of 20 solar reports per hour. Please try again in 12 minutes. The daily limit resets at midnight UTC.

Remove the kit

Click the X at the top of the Roof Solar Report panel, or click Remove Kit. The panels, labels, and crop you already added stay on your map.
