Shrink on Zoom — Control Size (Marker, Label) and Line Thickness (Lines, Shapes, Polygons) When Zooming

Note:
By default in Scribble Maps, markers, labels, lines, shapes, and polygons stay the same size or thickness when you zoom in or out.

This article explains how to make the size of a marker or label shrink when you zoom out, and how to make the thickness of lines, shapes, and polygon contours shrink when you zoom out.
It also explains how to return all items to their regular fixed-size or fixed-thickness setting.

The current zoom level is displayed at the centre of the map footer. For example: “Zoom: 3”.

Create the item

Create one of these types of overlays.

Draw Tool—Draw a freeform line

Line Tool—Draw a Straight Line, Connected Lines, Flight Line or Dimension Line

Pen/Curve Tool—Draw a precise curved line
 

Circle Tool—Draw a circle

Rectangle Tool—Draw a rectangle

Grid Tool—Draw a Grid

Polygon Tool—Draw a polygon
 

Label Tool—Create a label

Marker Tool—Create a marker
 

Change the setting: “Shrink On Zoom”

1. Select the Edit/Measure Tool in the top toolbar.

   Quick Key: press the "Q" key on your keyboard.

    

2. In Map View:

   Right-click a marker, line, shape, or polygon,
   OR click a label.

   The editor window will appear.

    

3. To change the behaviour:

   • Markers & Labels: the icon or text will shrink when you zoom out.
   • Lines: line thickness will shrink when you zoom out.
   • Shapes & Polygons: only the outline/contour thickness will shrink when you zoom out.

    

   • Check Shrink On Zoom to enable shrinking.
   • Uncheck Shrink On Zoom to keep size/thickness fixed.

    

4. (Optional) Set the zoom level.

   To the right of Shrink On Zoom:

   • Click the up/down arrows.
   • OR type a number into the field.

    

    
5. Click the "SAVE" button.

Test the display

1. Zoom in or out to see the effect.

   To zoom-in/out, there are 2 options:

   Option 1

   In the top-right corner of the Map View, click the:
   Zoom-in button "+"
   Zoom-out button "-"

    

   Option 2

   Use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

   For Windows

   Scroll forwards to zoom-in.

   Scroll backwards to zoom-out.

   For Mac

   Scroll backwards to zoom-in.

   Scroll forwards to zoom-out.

    

2. In Map View, you will see:

   • If Shrink On Zoom is checked:
     Markers and labels become smaller, and lines/shapes/polygons have thinner outlines as you zoom out.
   • If Shrink On Zoom is unchecked:
     All items keep their size or thickness at every zoom level.
