Description and example of a GPX file
GPX stands for GPS Exchange Format, an open standard used in many devices and programs. A GPX file contains GPS and attribute data in XML format. An example use for a GPX file is: you can transfer the data for a hiking trail into Google Earth Pro.
Export the GPX file
- Login to your Scribble Maps account at:

How to login / register - Open the map.
These are the possible methods:
Load a map from the Your Maps window
- In the top toolbar, click the "Menu" button.
- Under the "Export" heading, click: "Save GPX".
- (Optional) If the map has unsaved changes, you will see a pop-up displaying this message: "You have unsaved changes that will not be in the GPX. Save Now?" Click:
- "Save Now" to save the changes.

Save a mapOR - "Continue" to not save the changes.
The prompt window will close.
- "Save Now" to save the changes.
- You will see the downloaded file in your browser. The file's default location will usually be your computer’s "Downloads" folder. The file’s:
- Type will be: "GPX".
- Name will end with: ".gpx".
- (Optional) You can quickly view the XML data if you open the file by using text editor software. For example:
- Notepad on Windows systems.
- TextEdit on Mac systems.
