Improvement Ideas
If anonymous, please contact us at support@scribblemaps.com, or leave a contact email as well so we can discuss your idea. We DO try and implement all user suggestions if they are possible.

When importing a spreadsheet, allow for having custom markers such as circles/sequential numbers etc
I have a spreadsheet with many places and lat/long data. When uploading the spreadsheet it seems I can only use the provided markers/tabs etc to visualize these places on a map. However I find the markers are too big and my map gets cluttered quickly plus the markers dont show the info I want. I would like to have small dots / squares or just numbers in different colors or, another possibility, plain text (without a big box) that I can size according to my needs. My final aim is to print out a map, so information shown through clicking…
99 votesWe are fixing the entire spread sheet import process. We are also going to bring some basic functionality to our free version as well.

Add possibility to define measurement units based on custom image
it would be great to have the possibility to define a certain length on a custom image map, so that later drawn paths can be masured in real world units.
60 votesThis is an interesting idea, though not trivial to do. I am going to keep in this in mind through our new build.

double click on box to add text
Its rather annoying that when I try to move a text box, the box for typing the text in always appears. It would be better to just double click to add text, single click to move box.
30 votesThe main reason it is like this is because it might not be evident to non-technical people that you would need to double click to edit (we have a lot of kids that use this). Though we might consider implementing this anyways, or implementing it in the pro version that should be coming out in the coming weeks.

import Google Earth KMZ files
Importing GE KLM files is not enough, you are limiting your great application without GE KMZ import capability, so please implement it asap
25 votesYou can accomplish this by saving in GE as a KML. I admit this should be possible, we implemented it (sort of) in pro, but the entire file upload functionality and rendering needs to be improved. This will more then likely come after our next major release.

Print needs to fill the page
When I print I only get a small map in the corner of the page. I want a map that fills the page. It would also be nice to show a box on the map that represents the area that will be printed, otherwise I have to guess.
17 votesOne way you can do this is to instead use the “save jpeg” functionality, and set it as high you can get it, and then print that.
The printing functionality does need to be upgraded however, it is on our list of things to do.

Add a terrain profile tool based on 2 or more points defined by user
The user would click sequentially the points along his polyline in order to generate a terrain profile
14 votesCould you possibly give me a use case. There are other services around the web that provide this, I am just interested how you would use this specifically with Scribble Maps.

Text Marker Options
When importing data and using the text marker option, add the ability to change the text format. ie. text size, color and be able to also load without the bubble around the text.
13 votesWe might be creating a complete separate service for batch files. We haven’t completely decided yet. We are aware that the current import functionality is lacking.

Hide tool bar.
It would be nice if we could hide the tool bar from view. Basically a minimize tab for the tool bar. I have found that it gets in the way at times every now and then, and I have to work around it.

add the possibililty to store your own markers in a folder under place marker function.
As of now you can only add your own markers directly to the map, but when you want to add the same marker you have to add it from an url yet again.

"Style Map" for Terrain mode
Give us the ability to use "Style Map" on Terrain mode as well as Road mode. This would be massively beneficial for some of the work I do.

make it possible to increase the transparency of images
When you insert an image overlay, you cant see through it to the map. Thus, it would be helpful to be able to increase the transparency of the image to see the map through it

add an import specification/template saving feature to ease importing of standardized xls frequently
When you import xls files frequently (I do draw arrows between pairs of points) it would be helpful to have an option to save import specification (which rows go for header, which go for latitude/longitude, marker settings, etc.)

add map navigation using the pc keyboard.
When trying to draw an object that extends beyond the screen, the ability to move the map with the arrow keys, or zoom with page up and down would be especially helpful. Currently the only option is to end the line, scroll the map, and continue where you previously left off.

allow users to turn off the continue-a-line feature
I was trying to jot a note onto a map and found it impossible to do thanks to that feature where Scribble Maps thinks you always want to connect lines if they end/begin close together. I know I can add typed text, but really, just scribbling out a note is much easier. Please add a toggle so users can turn off that feature. Thanks!
8 votesThis may be our next release, we may have a global settings panel under menu which will allow you to turn off a variety of features and this could be one of them.

An option to remove the crosshair in the center of the map?
Please consider allowing the user to disable the crosshair in the center of the map.
